How to Walk Through a
Piece of Paper
Challenge your friends and family! See if
they know a way to walk through paper.... Give up? Ok, here’s
how to walk through a piece of paper: Fold a regular sheet
of paper in half. Then, make a series of cuts a quarter inch
apart, from the fold, to within a quarter inch of the edge
of the paper (from the folded edge, towards the loose edge).
Next, make another series of cuts between the first series
of cuts (but headed in the opposite direction - from the
loose edge, towards the folded edge). Again, don’t cut all
the way through! Finally, open the paper, and cut along the
line - but only from point A to point B (as drawn below).
Now, fold the paper open, and gently separate the paper at
the cuts. You should come up with a large paper circle ---
which you can walk through!

Can you make a quarter fit through
a hole the size of a dime?
Here’s a bet you can make with your
friends that you’ll be sure to win. Bet them that you can
get a quarter to go through a hole the size of a dime. On a
piece of stiff paper, trace a circle around a dime and then cut
the hole out. Now, fold the paper in half so the fold of the
paper cuts the dime-sized hole in half. If you drop a
quarter in and shake it a bit, the quarter will drop right
through!
